WHY DO WE NEED SUNSCREEN?
People do not realize how
dangerous UV light for their skin health. They think using sunscreen does not
affect them. Therefore they overlook using it, but they will never know what
will happen to their skin ten years later, whether it will remain the same or
get aging. Sun rays are the main cause of premature skin aging and skin cancer.
Therefore, sunscreen is an essentially important part of skincare that should
be applied every day when going out into the sun to help protect your skin from
damaging UV rays, preventing wrinkles and age spots.
According to Dr. Zeichner says "We
know that direct UV light exposure is the single greatest risk factor for the
development of both premature aging as well as skin cancers." As the sun
is warm and burning, it has harmful ultraviolet rays, so sunscreen can help
prevent skin cancer. Anyone needs sunscreen, whether from babies to seniors, no
matter what age or lifestyle, indoor or outdoor, babies, children, teenagers,
adults, or old men can be diagnosed with skin cancer which is a very serious
illness if they do not make it a habit to use sunscreen. Apart from helping to
avoid skin cancer, other benefits of sunscreen include reducing the redness and
blemishes on the face, slowing down wrinkled development or premature aging,
preventing freckles and uneven skin color.
Type of Sunscreen
Sunscreen is available in lotion,
cream, gel, stick, spray, and other formulations. Sunscreens are classified
into physical and chemical sunscreens. The difference between them, physical
sunscreen stays on the skin's surfaces and does not absorb, and it will reflect
the sunlight, reduces irritation, and more suitable for sensitive skin and
acne-prone skin. Meanwhile, chemical sunscreen absorbs into the skin and also
absorbs UV rays. It is good for swimming or requiring a waterproof formulation
and for those who have hard exercise. For me, I use physical sunscreen every
day because I have sensitive skin. Make sure to use sunscreen according to your
skin type.
If you wonder which sunscreen you
should use for your daily, look for the proper ingredients for your skin needs,
then apply it on your wrist for two to three days. If you do not feel a bad
reaction to your skin, then you may use it on your face, or maybe it suits your
skin. As we know, there is an SPF written on the sunscreen packaging, which
stands for Sun Protection Factor. At least you use sunscreen with an SPF rating
of 30 or higher. Sunscreen can protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays which
led to skin aging and burning. Besides sunscreen can protect the skin from the
sun rays, it also can protect the skin from blue light, a gadget that we often
used the time, especially during this quarantine. No wonder my skin remains
dull, even though rarely exposed to the sun.
How to use Sunscreen
The best way to apply sunscreen
is by using two fingers for the entire face. Start from the center of the face
and rub the sunscreen out towards the edges, make sure to add to the hairline,
ensures there are no areas overlook. Recommended to reapply sunscreen every two
hours even if it is cloudy or rainy, because the UV rays can still penetrate
your skin, so you should still be wearing sunscreen. Even if you stay at home,
you still need sunscreen for sunlight can penetrate through the window. The key
to getting the benefits of sunscreen and maintaining healthy skin is applying
it as directed.
After
several years of ignorance of not using sunscreen, I realized and feel about
the dangers of UV rays for my skin health, and I am regretting
why I didn't use sunscreen in the past. Previously no wonder my face always
looks dull. It began when an influencer educated me to use sunscreen to avoid
skin problems. After that, I select the suitable sunscreen for my skin type and
often use sunscreen, although sometimes I feel lazy, and my skin condition looks
better than before after getting used to wearing sunscreen. Now there will be
no reason for you not to use sunscreen anymore, so protect your skin.
